About the Artist

Photography has been a passion of Matte’s since he picked up a camera in high school and found creative freedom in the classroom. He absolutely loves the progression of photography from film to digital. While he is fascinated by technology changes of the digital age which allows him to explore and push new limits in photography, He still loves the aesthetic feel of film and what it brought to the experience of taking a photo.

As Matte says; "In my work, I explore the serene interplay between light and nature. My inspiration stems from a deep appreciation for the quiet moments in nature, where light transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. By focusing on these elements, I strive to evoke a sense of calm and reflection, inviting viewers to reconnect with the natural environment and find peace within its embrace. I spend my time wandering in the Half Light with my faithful puppy Beck.”

Matte continues to be recognized by such entities as Columbia Sports, Hot Chilly’s, Polar Filters, Prana Clothing and Lume Cube.

Matte enjoyed his time studying film and photography at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz, NY and University of Oregon where he earned a Fine Arts degree.
